From the colors of the traditional Korean clothing – Hanboks – to the rich variety of cuisine, finding luxurious Seoul isn’t a far reach. From amazing hotels and spas to affluent shopping centers, Seoul’s Gangnam district is so much more than just a song. Separated by the Han River, Gangnam is located South of the river and it many different neighborhoods such as, Apgujeong, Cheongdam and Samsung. Yes, Samsung isn’t just a brand. Being able to spend your vacation in the “Beverly Hills of Seoul” will no doubt have you in luxury for the whole time of your trip.
Where to stay: Starting from about $400 a night and has a 4.6 star rating, the Park Hyatt will have you staying in relaxation and paradise in the hustle and bustle of Seoul’s Gangnam district. The Park Hyatt, the lobby is located on the 24th floor, offers panoramic city views of Seoul, has three restaurant and bars, a fitness center and an indoor swimming pool and Park Club Spa. So when you are tired from your explorations from earlier in the day, spend some relaxation time in the Park Club Spa. The spa even offers customized consultations with spa therapists.
What to see: The Bongeunsa Temple is located in the Samsung neighborhood and right across from the COEX mall and the Park Hyatt hotel. The great thing about Seoul is the mixture of modern and traditional culture around the whole city. The monk Yeon Ho, who was then highest ranking monk in Silla, founded Bongeunsa in 794. The temple also offered a “Temple Stay Program”, where tourists can experience the life of a monk for a few hours.
Conveniently located next to Bongeunsa Temple is the COEX Mall. COEX Mall, near the Samsung subway station, and is Asia’s largest underground mall. This mall doesn’t only have stores and restaurants, but also convention centers, exhibition halls, a movie theater, an aquarium, the Kimchi Field Museum and that’s just to name a few. You definitely won’t get bored exploring this mall.
If you’re looking for a shopping trip, the neighborhood of Apgujeong should be a destination on your vacation. Shopping in Apgujeong is the equivalent of shopping at Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. Which is ironic because there is a subway stop in Apgujeong named Apgujeong Rodeo. You will be able to find very high-end designer brands here, such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Valentino and so much more. Also much like Houston and Dallas’ Galleria malls, there is an equivalent to those in Apgujeong. Other than the usual high-end brands we know, there is also a mixture of some Korean high-end stores and brands. Apgujeong is not called the Luxury Fashion Street for nothing!
Where to eat: For a nice dinner, Moodeungsan will have you eating in luxury with their quality beef dishes. This restaurant is very well known for its barbequed beef and is served with many different side dishes. After eating your beef, you will be served with Naengmyun, chilled buckwheat noodles.
For some amazing sweets and pastries after your dinner, a must-go location is Dessertree. This café is famous for French styled chocolates, creams and pastries. Not only will the taste leave you in heaven but also the presentation is just as amazing.
